Area of Research

• The Pesavento laboratory devotes considerable effort to analyzing novel patterns of disease, including clinically enigmatic diseases from animal shelters, the veterinary hospital, or the state diagnostic laboratory. We have a collaborative record of viral discovery that includes identification and characterization of virulent feline caliciviruses, canine diarrhea-associated viruses including Amdo-, Kobu, Sappo, and circoviruses, a bovine Astrovirus associated with encephalitis, canine and avian papillomaviruses, and a potentially oncogenic polyomavirus (RacPyV) from raccoons.
