Area of Research

  • Dr. Tyler Jordan is a board-certified veterinary dermatologist whose research program focuses on improving patient care, treatment outcomes, and animal welfare through the study of naturally occurring skin diseases in companion animals. The laboratory leverages well-characterized veterinary patients as naturally occurring large animal models of human disease to address clinically relevant questions in comparative and translational medicine. Current research investigates the biology, diagnosis, and treatment of cutaneous cancers—including cutaneous lymphoma, melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and equine sarcoids—as well as the mechanisms underlying itch, allergic skin disease, and urticaria. By integrating clinical investigation with molecular and pathological approaches, the laboratory aims to generate discoveries that advance both veterinary and human health.
  • Graduate students in the Jordan Laboratory receive individualized mentorship and opportunities to develop independent research programs aligned with their interests. Research projects integrate clinical and laboratory approaches and may include prospective clinical trials, enrollment of clinical patients, biospecimen collection and biobanking, retrospective analyses of clinical cases, histopathology and dermatopathology, molecular techniques (including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, and gene expression analyses), and collaborative translational research.
  • Prospective graduate students interested in dermatology, oncology, immunology, pathology, or comparative and translational medicine are encouraged to contact Dr. Jordan to discuss graduate training opportunities
