AdmissionsAdmissions

Admission to the Graduate Group in Integrative Pathobiology (GGIP) is open for the Fall Quarter each year. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all application materials are submitted by the appropriate application deadline. Applications received by the December 1st general deadline will be considered for priority evaluation and funding opportunities. Applicants who apply by the space available deadline (March 1) but after the general deadline are not guaranteed to have their application reviewed by the graduate program. Their application will be reviewed only if the graduate program determines it has additional space available.

Applications are completed electronically. The link to the application opens in September of each year and can be found on the Graduate Studies page under "Apply Now."

Prospective graduate students may apply for admission to either the M.S. or Ph.D. programs. GGIP is designed for students interested in studying disease at the global, organismal, cellular, or molecular level.

UC Davis Graduate Studies has final responsibility for admissions. The Admissions Committee makes recommendations for admission on behalf of the graduate group to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

Major Professor

A major professor is the faculty member you will conduct your M.S. or Ph.D. research with and is often called your mentor or the primary investigator (PI).

If you are considered for admission, you will be invited to our recruitment event and will have to opportunity to meet individually with prospective mentors. Doctoral student candidates will be given the opportunity to complete 2 laboratory rotations during fall quarter of year one to identify a major professor; students in the M.S. program are admitted directly to a lab. If the M.S. applicant has not identified a faculty member to serve as his/her mentor prior to admission, we will assist with this process. Contact the Integrative Pathobiology program coordinator (dsbond@ucdavis.edu) well in advance of the application deadline and provide a CV, as well as clearly stated research interests and goals.

Your major professor does not need to be an existing member of the Integrative Pathobiology graduate group, but should be willing to become one before you register for research units with him/her/they; any qualified UC Davis faculty can become a member of our group.  Click here for a list of current faculty members. Contact the program coordinator if further assistance is needed. Doctoral student candidates will be offered a maximum of two-quarters of rotation funding support. If a student has not identified a major professor by the end of those two quarters, the student will be dismissed from the program.

Undergraduate Preparation for Admission

Admission requires an undergraduate degree (B.S. or B.A) in a biological science, which should include prerequisite coursework in statistics, physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and cellular biology. Upper division courses in molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics are encouraged.
