Area of Research

  • Dr. Beaufrere's main research area is lipid-accumulation disorders in birds and reptiles. Parrots are very prone to atherosclerosis, dyslipidemia and hepatic lipidosis and reptiles, in particular bearded dragons, have a high prevalence of hepatic lipidosis. The research is focused on improving diagnostic options for birds and reptiles using advanced lipoprotein profiling, lipidomics, clinical pathology, advanced imaging, and molecular imaging methods as well as improving our knowledge of the pharmacology of lipid-lowering drugs in sauropsids. Dr. Beaufrere is also involved in other clinical research projects and areas related to avian and companion zoological medicine.
