Ecology Socialhttps://lists.ucdavis.edu/sympa/info/ecology-social

“What is this magical list? Ecology-social has traditionally been for communication about non-professional (read: social!) things, including housing/roommate searches, ride shares, parties, free stuff, cheap stuff, fun stuff, and all manner of upcoming Davis happenings. Keep in mind that this list has about 1600 people on it, including grad students, post-docs, and all sorts of Davis community members (not just ecologists!). They are a fun crowd of people, extremely capable of instigating shenanigans. The inhabitants of this listserv also have somewhat renowned, arguably magical powers to produce (with astonishing speed) the strangest of items for you to borrow. Need a rubber ducky by midnight or a rototiller for next Tuesday, and ecology-social has got your back!”

LGBTQIA Resource Center | https://lgbtqia.ucdavis.edu/

“The UC Davis Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual Resource Center provides an open, safe, inclusive space where people of all sexes, orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions are welcomed and celebrated.” Subscribe to their listerv here.

Seminar Outreach for Minority Advocacy (SOMA) group from Neuroscience | https://soma.neuroscience.ucdavis.edu/

Ran by a team of neuroscience graduate students at UC Davis this group aims to create a platform for neuroscience scholars from historically underrepresented and excluded backgrounds. Their objectives: (1) to enhance the visibility of underrepresented scientists and their stories, including obstacles they have overcome in science and academia; (2) to enable underrepresented scientists to reach a broader scientific audience, especially aspiring young scientists from diverse backgrounds; (3) to facilitate candid dialogue between underrepresented faculty and students, particularly regarding their journeys in academia; and (4) to establish research connections and possible collaborations between our invited speakers and researchers at UC Davis. They pursue these goals by hosting a program of seminars each quarter, the SOMA Summit, and a bi-weekly reading group.
